January is National Oatmeal Month, which means brands like Quaker will go on sale to encourage customers to buy oatmeal. Oatmeal is very versatile and has a long shelf life, so make sure you stock up in January.
February is National Canned Food Month, so you’ll find most canned items go on sale this month. With a great shelf life, it’s the best time of year to stock up on canned vegetables, tuna, salmon and chicken as well as delicious pie fillings.
It’s also National Hot Breakfast Month, so there are great savings to be had on waffles, syrup and pancakes. What a great excuse to cook up a hot breakfast on Sunday?
March is Frozen Food Month, which means there is money to be saved on a range of frozen meals, pizza, vegetables, fries, desserts and much more. This is one of the best money saving months, as you can buy frozen food to last you the whole year, for a fraction of the normal price.
Easter is generally celebrated in April, so it’s fair to say April is Sweet Foods Month. There are lots of opportunities to save money on baking supplies and all things sweet. Grocery stores will try to encourange customers to start baking Easter treats with savings on sugar, butter, marshmallows, chocolate and cake mix. If you love to bake, it’s the best time of year to stock up on all the essentials.
May is BBQ Food Month. Memorial Day is held in may which means lots of BBQ products go on sale. Save money by thinking about any other celebrations you plan on holding this year and stock up on paper products such as plates, napkins and cutlery. You can buy all your BBQ essentials like salad dressing, dips, condiments, burger patties, meat and marinades for less during May, so long as you keep an eye on the circulars.
June is National Dairy Month, which means many household essentials go on sale. During this month, you will save money on milk, cream, yogurt, butter, eggs, whipped cream, cream cheese and let’s not forget ice-cream. You can’t really stock up on these products, but you can enjoy eating more of these foods during June, while also saving money.
This is probably one of our favorites, and it’s no wonder why! July is National Ice Cream Month. What better way to cool down on a hot Summer day than with a delicious scoop of ice-cream? Clean out your freezer and stock up with a range of tasty flavors. Look into desserts using ice-cream and consider making these during July rather than other desserts in order to save money.
August is National Sandwich Month, which is no surprise since this is the month students go back to school. A variety of sandwich fillings and breads will go on sale during August, so make sure you try combinations you wouldn’t usually buy, since they are so cheap! August is also a great time to stock up on school snacks. Most school snacks have a long shelf life, so it’s safe to buy in bulk and put away for the coming school months.
September is National Honey Month. This promotional event was designed to raise awareness of the beekeeping industry, by promoting honey through sales and specials. Like many of the other products discussed in this article, honey lasts for a long time, so we recommend buying a stack of honey while it’s on sale to save money during the remainder of the year. Use honey in your recipes in place of sugar and add it to your marinades for a thrifty September.
October is National Seafood Month, making it the perfect time to enjoy delicious seafood for a fraction of the price. You can save money buy purchasing fish in bulk and freezing it in meal sized portions. This way, you’ll also have a steady supply of seafood to enjoy all year.
November is National Peanut Butter Lovers Month, so it’s the perfect time to test some of those crazy peanut butter recipes you have been waiting to try. Save money by eating peanut butter sandwiches this month and incorporating peanut butter into marinades, sauces and even desserts.
One of the best things about the holidays is the incredible food we all enjoy! That’s why we have decided to call December National Holiday Food Month. During December, you will be able to buy egg nog, cranberry sauce, ham, frozen pies, baking supplies and more for a much cheaper price. The trick is keeping an eye on circulars and visiting supermarkets for particular specials. It may take some time, but the money saving opportunities are certainly worth it during the holidays.
