Save Money at Home – Part 3

It’s amazing how easy it is to save money in your own home! In Part 3 of our Save Money at Home series, we will show you how to save money by changing a few of your everyday habits. In this article, we suggest you become a green thumb, stop paying for magazine subscriptions and make your own thrifty fun if you really want to see your bank account grow.

Get Into Gardening

If you love gardening, you probably already take care of your lawns yourself. But if you are paying someone else to mow the lawn, now is the time to stop. Try getting into gardening and you’ll immediately start saving money. For those already doing it themselves, did you know there are still ways you can save money? Consider low-maintenance plants that don’t require as much attention. Succulents are great, as they will flourish on their own and need very little water. You can also look at planting low-maintenance varieties of grass, to cut down on time spent mowing the lawn.

Stop Paying for Subscriptions

Do an audit of all the memberships and subscription you and your family have. This is quite a time consuming job, but it’s a fantastic way to look at how much money you’re spending on unnecessary services.

If you really want to save money, stop subscribing to magazines and newspapers. Did you know, you can read digital editions online for less, or you can find news sites that provide similar info for free?

Here’s another idea: Gym memberships can be replaced with self-directed or group exercise. Try going to walks in the afternoons with a group of friends. You’ll save money, but also stay fit.

Make Thrifty Fun

Draw up a budget and have a look at how much money you spend each month on entertainment. Chances are, you’re spending a lot more than you need to. There are lots of easy ways you can have fun at home without spending unnecessary money. Why not host a fun movie night at home instead of going to the movie theater? You can rent the DVDs and make your own snacks, both of which will cost a lot less money than taking the whole family out for a visit to the movie theater.
